Reminiscing the Old Times
It's
been 200 years since the "MOTHER OF PHILIPPINE REVOLUTION" was
born.
Do
you still remember how this female hero made a difference in the Philippine
history? Or do you even still remember who is she?
Melchora
Aquino de Ramos also known as "Tandang Sora" was a Filipina
revolutionary of her time. At the age of 84 she was able to lend her arms to
the Filipino revolutionaries by giving them food, medical attention and
encouragement as well as prayers and advices.
In
celebration of her 200th birthday, Quezon City remembered and honored her
heroism during the Philippine Revolution.
As
part of it, her remains was transferred from Himlayang Pilino to her original
birthplace in Quezon City, marked by the Tandang Sora Shrine in Banlat
Road.
The
shrine was made for the commemoration of Tandang Sora, It was also a symbol of
heroism, love and hope. Its centerpiece is a 35-foot brass statue carrying a
wounded Katipunero.
The
P3.2 million statue was designed by artist Abdulmari de Leon Imao Jr. who named
it “Ilaw ng Tahanan, Gabay ng Katipunan, Tanglaw ng Lipunan.” It sits at
the center of six smaller brass murals that depict the life of Tandang Sora and
her contributions to the Katipunan. (www.loqal.ph)
